the inspirationWHERE MARK'S STORY BEGAN“I’m sanding a piece of wood in my backyard, I can remember it like it was yesterday, and I get really hungry all of a sudden and I craved my favorite snack which is apples and peanut butter. I eat this all the time and I don’t think about my Zimbabwe experience. But this day, as I’m getting it out of the cupboard I suddenly think about the peanut butter I had in Zimbabwe and how this doesn’t even compare to that and I’m like wait I’m in the south in 2005 there’s this explosion of craft food being made all over the country in food, in beer, in condiments, but nobody’s making fresh roasted to order nut butter, that I know of, so I went online and googled it and I realized wow that’s crazy. So I drove to Whole Foods here in Durham and I bought some raw peanuts and raw pecans, because both are harvested in the fall here in North Carolina and I already had some raw local honey and great sea salt and I roasted up the nuts in my oven and I made a peanut pecan butter to eat just right there on the spot...and not to toot my own horn but it was delicious and it was way better than anything I could buy at the store…I was like wow, at the very least I’m never buying nut butter again I’m going to make my own.. go back to sanding and I think you know this could be it”
